About the David....
My name is David Straub. I was born in Missouri in 1960. I
came to Alaska in June
of 1996 to "carry on a dream of living in Alaska
and running the Iditarod." I own and operate a kennel
of 30 sled dogs where I offer kennel tours and mushing trips.....
My passion is "training dogs."
I began mushing in the '80's. I used to read articles about
Rick Swenson's, the Mackey's and the Redington's running the
Iditarod and followed the race for years with the hope of someday
running it myself.
-
My goal is
to enjoy the rewards of training and running my working
dogs andtaking in the breathtaking back country of Alaska.

Each year during
March, the eyes of the world are on Alaska to witness what
is known by man as "The Last Great Race". Mushers
and dog team up to face the challenge of over a thousand miles
of awesomely beautiful yet treacherous terrain from Anchorage
to Nome, racing other teams time and elements.
-
This is more
than merely a race. It is the ultimate test of strength, endurance
and skill where men, women and highly trained sled dogs are
pitted against the harsh and unforgiving winter wilderness
across frozen tundra and through rugged mountain passes, through
blizzards and waist high snow, in temperatures exceeding 50
below zero. It is a race in which a strong heart, an iron
will and an undaunted determination are not only essential
ingredients for competing in this race but also for one's
survival.
-
This is the Iditarod.
Mushers from all around the world join the ever expanding
field of mushers whose dream is to participate in the annual
event, each hoping that they will cross the finish line in
Nome.
